Not a boa, or even a snake...neat visitor to my porch this evening.....

Found this guy resting on the top step of my porch this evening. I've never seen a moth like this one...in fact, the only green moths we typically see around here are those lovely pale green Luna moths. This guy (or gal?) was so cool looking, I just had to share.

thanks to a link someone on another board posted for me. It's a Pandorus sphinx (Eumorpha pandorus). Truly a beautiful creature. He, or she, was still on the steps this morning when I was getting ready for work, so I took the opportunity to measure him and the wingspan at the widest point while folded was just over 3 inches. Bet he's impressive in flight!

I beleive that is an Owl Eyed Moth and it gets it's name from when it's wings are completly opened that the inside wings have eye like markings, but with out seeing the moth fully open it is hard to be sure,
