Anyone know why they do this?

Ryan Shackleton Jun 03, 2004 12:33 AM

Reptile taxidermists seem to be quite ignorant of the animals they stuff. I see gaboons coiled in a high strike like a diamondback(several forum members told me this is a highly unlikely pose) and I see a lot of diamondback heads mounted coming out of eggs-that is ridiculous in itself, but the heads are usually from 2-3 foot snakes-aren't they a lot smaller than that when born?(If I'm wrong on this count then I stand corrected)
Just wondered if anyone had an idea of why they do them like this

I've never seen a gaboon do this, but I've seen a couple of puff adders do the full-on classic diamondback pose when they felt threatened (unfortunately, they've never done it when I had a camera), so I can't rule out the possibility that a gaboon might do it.

Yeah, diamondbacks are something like 12-14 inches long when BORN...
