serpentboy Jun 03, 2004 01:12 AM

hello ppl.. I posted a week or so ago and was pretty suprised i did not get one reply so i thought i'd try again... If anyone has ne info please help... In 2 of my clutches of king eggs i have all beautiful looking eggs when i candle them i see all that should be seen the nice lil network of veins..but in a few there is nothing to be seen. Just clear all the way thru.. Does this mean they are duds..? If nothing is living inside the egg would"nt rot, mold etc... If anyone can help out that would be a big help...Thanx PE@CE....Mike....

Seeing veins means they have been fertilized. Things can still go wrong but this is a good sign. I have had eggs go 7-10 days after laying with no veins visible but that is rare. I took these eggs to a snake show since I thought they were bad and let a hundred kids pick them up, squeeze them etc to feel what a real snake egg feels like. When I got home I started to throw them out but they just looked too good. I candled them one last time and they all had veins. They all hatched with 10 perfect Bairds Rat snakes. Shows that a good egg can take being handled and even put back in a different position and still hatch. As far as an egg never showing veins and being good, I have never had that happen. I have had perfect white eggs with no veins stay perfect looking the whole incubation time and even a few days past when the good ones hatched. They never molded. I opened them and they were like hard boiled eggs. I would keep the eggs with no veins since it will do no harm even if they mold and are attached to the rest of the clutch. HDEAN
