what is the legality of shipping a few chameleons from Hawaii to California? Specific laws would be appreciated. Thanks

if you can obtain a permit from the dept of wildlife, i think they allow you up to 4 jacksons for personal use only. i can look into it with more detail if you would like, being i live in hawaii! lol aloha

That would be greatly appreciated. I am going to Hawaii (Kauai to be exact) later this month. I know they are more populated on Maui and Oahu but I have heard there are plenty on Kauai. I would really like to collect them myself but I will buy them if I have to. Do you have any suggested areas on the island to look for them? I have a direct flight from Los Angeles to Lihue so I will not be on Oahu at all to look on that island (almost changed flight plans just for that but gotta get back quickly for work). Thanks in advance for any info you find.
by the way, which island are you on?
i haven't heard of any being on kaui, how did you hear that? well if there is jacksons on kaui, your best bet is to get to know the local kids or just ask the locals. i know where to go on maui, hawaii(big island, where i'm from), and oahu. i'll call the right people today! aloha

According to a book by Phillipe de Vosjoli and Gary Ferguson the first reported chameleon on Kauai was in 1995. I will keep my fingers crossed to find some there. If not hopefully a pet store on the island will have them at an affordable price.
any luck finding out about chameleons on Kauai?
NO LUCK GETTING A CALL BACK FROM DEPT OF WILD LIFE YET! GO FIGURE. BUT I HAVE FOUND OUT, LIKE YOU SAID THE JACKSONS ARE FAIRLY NEW TO KAUI. I HAD A TALK WITH A KAUI COLLEGGE STUDENT WHILE AT WORK AND SHE HAD NO IDEA WHERE TO FIND THEM! I'LL KEEP LOOKING AND ASKING QUESTIONS! SHOULD HAVE VISITED THE BIG ISLAND (HAWAII). LOL
actually a customer of mine is on an extened vacation on teh big Island. If I strike out in Kauai I might ask him to bring some back. My brother was just there two weeks ago as well. He might go back later this summer and if he does I will ask him to bring some back. Hopefully I can just get them while I am there
any luck by chance? I am leaving soon and still looking for info. Thanks for your help.
