Making reptile tanks suitable for holding water?

MissMiniZoo Jun 03, 2004 01:44 AM

Does anyone know if it is possible to make an aquarium that is not orginially suited for holding water into one that can safely hold water?

My iguana outgrew the 29 gallon tank that I am speaking of and now I would really like to use it for my RES hatchling and Eastern Painted hatchling. However, as I said, the tank is not made to hold water. Can I fix it somehow to hold water safely??

The difference between your 29 gal terrerium, and a fish aquarium is the width of the glass. You can use it to hold water, but you can only fill it up half way. If you were to fill it up to the top, it would probably bust or leak. So it will be fine if you only fill it half way with water.

You cant really fix it. Reptile tanks are made with thinner glass. Aquariums have thicker glass, so it can withstand the weight/pressure of the water. I wouldnt risk it, just get a new tank.

You mentioned they were hatchlings...use it, but only add an inch or two of water....the size of the 29 though, makes it difficult to change daily.
