Here's what I have...and is there any point?

Sonya Jun 18, 2003 02:19 PM

I have a lone female Mexican Milksnake. I also have corns and rats....and possible breeding access to nicer corns and rats (cajoling a freind) Neither of us has a male L.t.annulata nor are we likely to get one unless you think it would be more sensible than cross breeding her. I could, of course live without ever breeding her. But I am banging around ideas right now. She is about 2ft and a couple hundred grams. She seems to have slowed growth. So seems she is not gonna be a giant. Sorry this is the best pict I have.

My asking is there a point to my hybrid breeding her was not a knock on hybridizing.....maybe you read it that way. Rather I was wondering if it is worth doing to get F2 to work with or is it more worthwhile to just get purchase F2s and go from there.
The reason I asked to begin with is that she is a nice snake and all but I haven't come upon a nice male L.t.annulata and I do have male corns and rats available to me. I could just never breed her. I could find her a nice home with someone wanting to breed her pure milk lines. I thought I would get some open minded input on the hybrid forum. But maybe you thought I was trolling?

I was serious, didnt think u where a troll, i think a nice sunglow motely corn mix would be an interesting hybrid.

especially hwne u bred the babies together to get albinos and the motley gene would effect the pattern in who knows what way

snakes...cattle and sheep and rabbits, but not snakes (so, techinically not species hybrids) anyway. Trying to think of a way to get something cool, aberrant. I like some of the Jurassic stuff but was looking for sincere input. I seems like something with a different pattern is more likely to have a good result, over a typically patterned animal.

I'm not sure exactly what morphs of corns/rats you will have access to, but I think a neat male to use with your female would be a ghost motley or ghost stripe corn. Most lampropeltis/elaphe crosses are based on the amel and anery (snow) genes and there arent too many based on ghost type genes. I'm sure they are out there, but you don't hear to much about ghost jungle corns, or even hypo jungles. Seems like amel and snow are the most common.

Heck now I've let my cat out of the bag!!!

Good luck,

My African Grey is helping me type and I think she is a bit to enthusiastic.
Well, Dwight, I have likely access to any snakes Alan has from you and some he got from Evan Stahl and gee, he probably has more now. (I got that male Black rat with Alan early this spring.) Anyway. I like the idea of a patterned ghost. Alan has hypo striped and others but I can't remember what. I will have to get his input.
I think I am getting some ideas. Thanks!
