southern african "sand or grass snakes". Psammophis sibilans brevirostris is commonly called the shourt snouted grass snake. They are the smaller of the family that include the olive grass snake getting to about 1.8m. Fast moving , diurnal colubrids that actively hunt lizards, rodents and other snakes.Prone to shed tail by rolling when grabbed in the wild. Venom of no serious consequence to man, but some people that have had a large olive bite said it hurts really badly, bled profusely etc. Closely related to Skaapstekers (Psammophylax) and share much of the same range.
