PRE-CUT AIR-HOLES in the top of the Hovabator, I closed some of them with tape is that OK?

Damon Jun 03, 2004 10:47 AM

Hey guys I was wondering what you thought about those pre-cut air-holes in the thermal air-flow model of the hovabator.

Last night I checked my eggs and I noticed the egg that is on top of the clutch had a big dent in it. My medium was a little dry so I put a little warm water around the eggs in the medium.

But I think these airholes are the problem. The incubator is in my bedroom, so there is not to much humidity in there.

There are 8 airholes on the top of the incubator, I blocked off 6 of them with tape. Did this around 4AM after a long night of feeding snakes.

This afternoon the dent is not as bad, but it's still there. It's the only dented egg, but it is the egg that is the closest to the air-holes.

I just want to thank everone again over and over for all your advice, I have been asking questions and driving everone crazy for the past 3-years while rasing my snakes. I really do appreciate your patience and help tremendously.

These eggs are so important to me, I just cannot tell you how bad I want this to work out. Just to finally be able to hatch my very own babies. I've been waiting 10-years for a moment that looks as if it may only be 2-months away.

If you have the turbo model, disconnect the fan. I still have to add water periodically though. I have found that eggs are plyable a few days after they are laid. After that, the shell becomes stiffer (not like a chicken egg). So, even though you now have enough moisture, the eggs that were dimpled may remain dimpled.

I recommend a secondary container within hovabator. Eggs within this container will experience less temp fluctuation, more uniform temp, and less moisture variation. Also, incubator thermostat will not be subjected to high humidity.

Plugging vents will not be necessary.

Adding a container within a Hovabator can prove difficult unless you add the expansion rings. They aren't very deep

You can get a deep styrofoam shipping box and use that for the bottom.
