Figured out the "non-eating" baby beardie problem...

turtlequest Jun 03, 2004 11:19 AM

I can really say im learning alot about beardies from the help i get on this board, thanks.

My baby bearded dragon (2.5 months) had stopped eating for about 3 days. Then when he started eating, he would only eat about 2 to 3 crix a day. Something wasn't right. I figured out the problem, it was a broken temperature strip. Even though the strip said it was at 110 (which was the highest it went), i put 2 different ones in there and it was only reading at 90 degrees in the hottest part of the tank. I noticed the dragon making a "coughing up a hairball" action. From reading through the post i found out that beardies need a temp of at least 110 to properly digest their food or they attempt to regurgitate it. I made sure the temp was 110-115 and the next day, my beardie housed 30 small crix.

Im happy now, he's happy now.....Thanks for the help!!

0.1 Bearded Dragon (Fuego, spent the last 10 months thinking she was a he!)
2.1 Roommates (require more cleaning up after than the dragon)

Glad to hear it! If you haven't yet make sure you get a digital thermometer with a probe. As you can see the other kind aren't very reliable. This includes the dial ones as well, they're junk too!

If you sit there long enough you can actually see your beardie grow. Good luck with him and have fun!
