hi

I searched the net for specs on Bilai Contum, and found nothing.
The objective was to learn more about the area, for a better reproduction of my G.Ulikovskii's natural habitat.

Are you sure its the right spelling?
It is in Vietnam right?

anyway, thanks for your time. I am looking for the best combination for my G's and i consider your comments a great help.

thanx again.
p.s: How do you go about putting fake walls in your aquariums?
i WOULD like a little description of your experience with goldens

ciao

Hi,

I am not sure about the spelling. At least that was how Darevski and Orlov spellt it.
The area lies in the three country triangle Laos, Vietnam , Kamputschea and is located a few hundred kilometers eastward form the terra typica of G. petricolus.

Fake walls? I Hope my english suffices for the description:
I construct such fake walls by forming a scaffold structure from styrofoam into which I also integrate flowerpots using PU foam.
Therefore the styrofoam is glued to the backwall of the tank using silicone.
The modelated wall is then covered with a thin layer of concrete mixed with appropriate oxyde colours.
Before drying out, it is completely covered with fine sand.
After drying and putting the wall into vertical orientation, the sand fells down, leaving a thin layer on top of the concreter surface which very much looks like natural sandstone.
Sorry, I do not have a digicham-Pics would make things a lot easier.

Hope that helps

Ingo

.

Your english is fine, i just have some difficulty with certain material you use, and where you can get it.

1. what is a scaffold structure?

2. What is PU foam, some kind of glue between walls and styrofoam?

3. what are the oxyde colors, what are they for(coulouring?) and could you describe the process by which you mix it with concrete (what kind of concrete?).

I just want to do everything right.
I can't thank you enough for your time.
Its like a cave of wanders full of much needed information.

Also, i've thought of getting real rock plates from places i know in my vicinity. Granite slates, thin and long. Could that be used, or is it too rough and not really at all what i need.

I'm just scared the styrofoam my not be suitable for geckoes.
is all styrofoam ok??
do you put any substrate in with your rock walls?

thanx again and again.

hi,

Ive had some luck with researching G.ulikovski.

Apparently, Petricolus is not as much related to ulikovskii as the G.Vittatus.
And this one(Vittatus) is a rainforest dude.

Does this sound right, or is it against what you know?

have a nice day.
