New mutation Thamnophis elegans, Wandering Garter

On a trip to New Mexico last weekend I was thrilled to find a calico looking garter while hiking in the mountains. Of course the pictures don't do the snake justice.

I am not quite sure if the tongue is unique, but it sure stands out.

Brian,

Very cool Vagrans morph. Did you keep the snake? Never saw a calico wandering before, congrats on some great photos.

I did keep the snake. When I found it I was unsure what it was. I had to keep it to be sure I didn't find a new species.

Cool Snake!

I am anxious to see some more photos of the snake.

I only took photos in the field, so I don't have many. Here are two more.
