BALL finally calming down

irishmanhoe Jun 03, 2004 04:54 PM

Up until today I may have possibly been the owner of the most aggressive ball ever lol. However, today i went and took him out when he was stretched out across the tank, he did not strike. Then I took him out onto my patio where the sun was coming in and held him for a while, no strikes. sometimes you just need to relax and let the snake explore his keeper, just a little advice for anyone wiht agressive snakes.

I highly doubt your Ball has "calmed" down. More likely, it is in a state of being "super-stressed". Like when Iguanns and monitors close their eyes after being pestered for long periods of time (if I can't see it, it can't hurt me type of thing).

Leave your snake alone, make sure its eating regularily, make sure its healthy, and then worry about it being "tame" or "docile". It will never be your pal. Best you can hope for is that it won't associate you with being a giant predator. But if you don't leave it alone for long periods of time, that will NEVER happen.

How bout...i've been handlng/keeping/collecting/studying snakes for close to 5 years now, and i was merely expressing the fact that my ball HAS in fact calmed down, it was just that my approach to handling her was wrong. I have never owned pythons before so their behavior is very new to me. no need to be the arrogant guy in the room.

thanks for ppl that DO actually help, and dont waste space

I'm asking because it can take weeks for a python to be halfway comfortable in it's new surroundings.

And in the case of wild-caughts..weeks becomes YEARS to never.

And Ball Pythons do not behave like other pythons. AT least none that I've owned.
