nest raiding speckled kingsnake???

stebo Jun 03, 2004 07:57 PM

I found a female kingsnake in our box turtle pen about five days ago. She was digging what I thought was a hole to lay her eggs in. I took a photo of her and saw no more of her until today when my wife informed me that she was back and had been digging several holes. When I took a look I found that she had dug three holes exactly where I had recently collected turle eggs and she had dug up a fourth nest hole that I had missed. Have any of you had like experiences with snakes?

Yeah kingsnakes will eat box turtle eggs. They'll eat turtle eggs in general, it doesn't matter the sub-species.

I had a kingsnake like the one pictures as a pet. Eggs were his favorite food. I would crack an egg and set half shell with yoke inside his cage and he would drink it down. Those kingsnakes are egg junkies!
