Hey long time no speak, San Bernardino Ringneck Snakes(Diadophis punctatus modestus) will usually eat small lizards, small snakes, worms, and occaisonally some insects. Pretty colorful little snakes I say.

I forgot, it will also eat small salamanders, slugs and you may be able to get it to eat small fish. Try and find food items where you caught it, if there are alot of small snakes or lizards and if it is more of a dry habitat, the snake will probably only eat snakes or lizards. If the place where you caught it is near a stream or a pond or a somewhat moist environment, the snake may be a salamander eater. Think about it.

well you couuld have told me to leave it alone for a few days so I will but I need help making his cage escape proof because this morning I came in from outside and I almost stepped on the little buger and he lives in a 31 qt rubermaid container

First of all, I am not good with ringneck snakes being in rubbermaid containers, simply because I have had them escape from such conditions. I recommend maybe a 10 gallon tank(no lid is needed if it can't reach the top). Or maybe a small 1 or 2 gallon plastic tank that they sell at the pet stores for a few dollars. Use loose soil as a substrate and have maybe some moss a flat rock or two in there as well.
