I have an Important question!!

Collaredkeeper Jun 03, 2004 08:22 PM

Well, my two baby collareds are eating good and even showing yellow. The problem is that one is growing more than the other. The smaller one seems to be weaker and less dominant, is this nature? They get along fine its just one seems to be more weak and afraid of the other. Is this Bad?
Also, could the one be weaker because he cannot find the water. I have a water dish in there but they don’t seem to recognize it. How should I introduce them? I’ve tried the water dripping on rock thing but it still doesn’t work. Today I put water on my finger and they were licking away.
I also got much more rocks for both tanks. I have around ten, properly stacked, in the big and 2, not stacked, in the small. They love the rocks almost as much as I loved the price. All together the slates cost $9 and are the best slates I have ever seen. They go great in both tanks. It was .17 cents per pound while pet stores were 1.78 and was all used and had no selection.
Well anyway, my questions are
-Is it bad one baby is growing less and less dominant than the other (the bigger doesn’t know she is picking on the smaller, LOL)?
-How should I introduce them to water, or will they eventually find it?
Just being a concerned Collaredkeeper, lol.

ok i am a bit confused, as you talked about two tanks but the two lizards getting along, so are they together in the smaller tank? anyway if they are together and one is scared, it could be a problem because the big one could stop the littler one from eating and just cause undue stress. however i have never had this problem so i will let someone with more experience answer you better on how to fix it.
also i never see my lizards actually drink water, i just keep a spot of damp sand on one side where they sleep and they usually choose to burrow into it, but i think i read that the babies stay on paper towels? so i don't think that will work for you. i have read though, i think on this forum, that you can "soak" your babies by putting them on wet warm paper towels for a few minutes. do you have a plastic container that they could not get out of for five minutes? the babies will float and maybe drown if you just stick them in water, so i have read. soaking should help if you think one of them is getting dehydrated. i also sometimes place a little bit of water in the bowl and then let the water drip from above into the bowl, sometimes the movement of the water catches their eye. i hope this helped some and good luck with your babies.

One way to get lizards of any age to drink, is to put a small drop on thier snout with an eye dropper. Some of mine go wild when they se the eye dropper entering the tank. You can mix the water with vitamins and/or calcium. Others just don't seem to drink. You may have to take the large hatchling out of the cage and then feed the smaller one. good luck!

I have the babies in the smaller tank, and did the water drop system.
Thanks,

I've wrote that question over 3 times (internet kept shutting off) so sorry if the question is confusing. Just wanted to get it out.
