first cage

I saw on http://www.corallus.com/caninus/husbandry.html that a simple cage was the best for a new ETB ... anyway i see that most people suggest a Rubbermaid and I was wondering if this http://www.rubbermaid.com/hpd/consumer/product/detail.jhtml?prod=HPFG533600BLUEB&attributeId=HPATT1003&nextType=noValue¤tType=HPCAT02&locationId=LOC00001&thirdMenuIndex=3 was a good first cage for a 9 month old ETB ... Also how do I get the pvc pipe so go across do I cut holes into the Rubbermaid? Also how do you keep the cage so humid w/o it getting very bacteria filled?

"The substrate should be either a white/paper towel or newspaper. Having a white substrate makes seeing mites relatively simple as well as looking at the appearance of feces. A perch the thickness of the snake can be from a pvc pipe, wooden dowel or natural branch. Incidents of scale problems have been observed when emerald tree boas were kept in humid conditions and on pvc piping. With natural branches, you can run into the problem of mites hiding under the bark. I personally feel wooden dowels are great for isolation cages because they have no spacesfor mites to hide in and do not seem to cause skin problems as pvc pipes do occasionally. However, without proper ventilation, the dowels, like branches, can develop fungi which should be carefully watched for. Proper ventilation will solve that problem. "

this is the quote from www.corallus.com ... how do you manage to keep it well ventilated and yet very humid at the same time? it seems to me a screened cage w/ a humidifier would be best

first thing you do is buy a can of prevent-a-mite and spray the cage and substrate with it and let that air out for a while...you should not have a mite problem if you get a good snake but this will help. for good humidity use side ventalation if you are making the cage...if you buy one with a screen top then you cover the top with plastic like a garbage bad and leave about an inch or so on each side or just the area of the basking light if you choose to use one. this will hold humidity well if you are misting every day. good luck
