things I would do: change substrate from astroturf stuff to repti-bark (made from Fir trees this substrate holds moisture when you mist it and does wonders for humidity) also, in the rock hide on the right, i would also buy some terrairum moss, and scatter it to make a thin layer on the bottom. and i would buy an aquarium backround to make it more cosmetic. also, put a damp towel (cut a hole in it so the lamp fits where you want it) on the screen top to ensure humidity stays in the "good zone" (60%-75%) i would buy a set of thermometer/hygrometer from petco for 10 bucks for the both of them.

you do not have to get these things, but they will benefit the snake In my opinion when it comes shedding time. do you have a UTH?

oh, and if you get an Under tank heater, you would need to elevate the terrarium about 1 1/2 inches to insure air flow to the heater.

thanks for the tips !

These sound like personal preferences. I think the set-up he has now is fine. In fact, it is more than adequate. A damp towel atop the enclosure is just a nice way to invite moss and mold, and is more risky than, say, placing the water bowl slightly over the UTH.

i don't have a UHT, though i might get one, it sounds important for the snake. i installed a dimmer for the heat lamp, so that i can set the temp. he never soaks himself in the water bowl, he barely soaks the end of his tail in. anyways, thanks for suggestions !

A UTH is more important than a lamp. For many, the heat from the UTH is more than adequate, though I suspect with your setup you will need the lamp as well. You should definitely get one, connected to a dimmer switch as well. At night, you can leave the UTH on while you turn off the lamp.
