Who has had trouble with your savannah monitors when you first got one?

dmlove Jun 03, 2004 09:01 PM

I am interested in a Savannah Monitor for quite some time. I have raised bearded dragons and breed them, and have also had a few pythons and veiled chameleons. Savannahs have intrigued me and i really want one. I have been doing research, and this summer i have thought that i may look around for one. I am aware of their possible aggressiveness, but who has had a lot of trouble with baby/juvi savs that they got and how did you deal with it? That is the only thing that is holding me back. Thanks so much!!

I have had mine for sumtime now and he is no problem he is just a big baby but im not saying all of them r like that it takes time for your savannah to get used to u, its like anything there even like us if we go some were new we have to have time to adjust to the surrounding areas.

I've never seen a savannah that's agressive for no reason. You get a savannah and care for it, and it'll be nice. I've had many exanthematicus and I've have never had a problem handling them ever. When they're small they may attach themselves to your finger here and there but that soon wears off when they figure out it doesn't work and that you mean them no harm. I've also had beardies and the savannahs are far less demanding as far as diet goes. As long as you're not the type of person that says "oooo i want one of those, they look like mean dinosaurs". Or the type of person who trys to reap coolness from it.

Mine has always been an agressive eater and he has been known to confuse my fingers for food when I put my hands in his cage. But when I slowly show him my hand he realizes I have no mice for him and he will not bite.
When I do take him out he's very active, but never tries to bite.
