Lost Gecko, tried everything!!

sabrina2 Jun 18, 2003 03:11 PM

I Rescently bought a second Gecko to accompaing my oldest one. She is femele, and less afraid of everything then my male. They both escaped once my boyfriend forgot to put the top of the terrarium back on, it was may 18th. I STILL havent found her...I tried looking at night, putting the heating lamp in different rooms, looking in my shoes, drawers, ect. She is in the basement. Could she climb the stairs? I know she might be alive, because I lost my male when i was still a beginner with geckos..He was lost a month and a half. He ate ( i guess) escaped crikets and (unfortunatly) a part of his tail. Please help me! My other gecko is always hiding and he seems to miss his girlfriend, besides, i miss her 2!

I had a gecko lost for 5 months! And I found her, alive and suprisingly well. Geckos can climb down stairs easily (mine did!), they can't climb up hardwood stairs but if you stairs are carpeted they may be abble to climb up.

Put a heating pad and a hide out where you think she may be. Also, check under the stove, under the refrigerator, under the clothes dryer, anywhere it might be warm. Your gecko will be looking for a source of heat.

The best time to look for your gecko is the middle of the night like 11pm to 3am. They tend to come out and be morte active at night. I have found my lost geckos at night.

One of my females escaped while I had the screen off and got a phone call. Clever little one! She was missing for over a month and a half somewhere in the apartment. I would always randomly take a flashlight and look around all of the mentioned warm spots, but would never see any sign of her. Since bright lights seem to bother them, I got some red celophane and turned the flash light into a red light. One night, with all the lights out I made the rounds with the red light. There she was with the light not freaking her out, staring at me from across the room beind my computer desk. A little thinner, but still as spunky as when I got her. My advice is to be patient and when you least expect it, there she will be.

my gecko china escaped 3 times from me (it was the third time i figured out how asfter the first ones cage change) the first time he escaped my bf set his cork bark hide up in a way so he could escape out of his rubbermaid. about a week later i found him in with a smaller male beating up on him. the next two times he got out of oner of thse "reptile" cages that have a hole in the bottom, i lost the cover for the hole and he got out through there twice before i figured out where he keept getting out from. both times i found him in the book shelf, the first time he had his oes caught in a sticky trap for mice poor guy but hes still doing great even from his near wild experience.
