Breeding for color in Surinames

SCVReptiles Jun 04, 2004 12:13 AM

Is there anyone who specifically breeds for color, i.e., purple, pink in surinames or guyanas? I know two average looking parents can produce nice animals, but is the average better with better color in their parents? Also is there a better locality for either the Suri's or Guyanans? I've heard one mentioned before, but can't remember the name. Thanks.

Ken

There are lots of guys here who breed true redtails and most due so for color amongst other things.
Yes, taking/using the best of the best will make the best of the best...
and there are certain areas that seem to export more boldly colored animals... one is the Esquissibo River (hope I spelled it right), I believe in Guyana.

If I were to recommend breeders for color I would say
Lee Barie, Barry Miller, Rob Tudehope, Bill Parks, and a few others...

within a couple hours the Suri guys will jump on and help you out alot more..

take care, Joe

personally look for . Rob Tudehopes DW line has produced some of the lightest most colorful adults I have ever seen, his JV bloodline (he has babies) are so colorful they almost look like they have been spray painted. Also Barry Miller is a color freak , the Belknap animals have some serious reds. Brian Abrahamson of Florida Redtails also pops out some extremely colorful animals , the animals last year produced by his Belknap female Lynsdey were super colorful along with his 10'-11' ovulation machine BATS who consitantly drops some of the biggest most colorful babies around. Lee Barrie also produces some pretty red/pink animals, 2002's litter had some intense color. I think most people breed for pattern because pattern remains consistant throghout the animals life , super colorful babies some times end up as super dark adults. I'm sure there are many more names I missed , Mike Eckert has some of the best stock in the universe , and I'm sure anything he produces will be loaded with color and killer patterns. Derek Yagi also has some very very impressive animals ready for next year , easily some of the best pairings around. OK..enough snake talk..must have coffee...

Good Luck
