Attached Egg Yolks

Jennifer4783 Jun 04, 2004 11:21 AM

Hi, this is my first clutch, and I'm starting to get worried. So far two eggs have hatched(lat night and this morning) and both still have the yolks attached. I did a search in the archive, and discovered that this isn't normal. I have both in a tank with moist paper towels. Is this the right thing to do? I have to go to work, so I'm worried that the paper towel will dry up. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions? I'm at a loss. Thanks.

It's completely normal.. It doesn't happen on every one but it does happen. Leave them in the incubator. Transfer them to another container with damp paper towels (be careful not to rupture the sack) and leave them in the incubator for 24 hours. They'll absoarb the sack.

It does happen once in a while. I hatched out two clutches but only had one come out with the yolk sack attached. For keeping the paper damp how about adding a few soaked sponges under the paper towers as that will keep a steady source of water for the paper towels to stay damp throughout the day while your at work. Just an idea.. I could not think of anything else, but yes keep the baby on moist paper and in the incubator until it is absorbed and it should be just fine. Good luck with the babies!!

It is completely normal for this to happen. You also will be fine if you put a damp whole paper towel in a tupperware container since you are probably using a hovabator. The towel will not dry up. Leave them in the tupperware till they either absorb their yolk sac or it falls off. From my experience it takes about 24 hours and then you can transfer them to their new home.
Good luck,
