going out of town for a night, what do i do with the dragon?

spottedragon Jun 04, 2004 11:48 AM

im going on a short trip (1 night) to my grandmas house and i have decided not to bring my little buddies, especially with my mom packing, there will be hardly any room to bring me! i am thinking my leopard gecko can bare the 70 temp in my house but what about my dragon (1 month)? i have a human heating pad under my leo's cage that i could take away and put under my dragons cage, but would this be hot enough? i dont have any substrate in his cage but paper towels so i believe the heat will be okay at the bottom. i dont have a timer, and i dont have any money on hand to get one right away for his lights. what about putting half his cage in a window and covering the other side with a towel? my air conditioner will be running while im gone. what to do?

I don't know everything but I think for only one night if the temp never gets below 70 in your house the beardie will be ok. I wouldn't feed him b4 your leave because it sounds like u will need to turn off the lights while your gone so temps will not be high enough to aid in digestion...maybe the safest thing to do is ask for a 10 dollar loan and buy a timer b4 u leave. gl

In case you didn't know. A timer is $5.00 to $7.00 dollars.
Ace, Lowes, Walmart carrys them. And pretty easy to set up.

You can tell your mom you want to buy a magazine or a bag of Dorritos and a coke for the trip take the 5 bucks and get a timer.

oh and for putting the cage in the window i would not do it because the temps might get so hot.

at 1 month they need to eat crix three times a day - so if you have to leave for a day or so be sure to feed him well before you go, and leave a good bowl of salad and pellets for him to munch on while you're away. do not leave extra crickets in the tank for him because they'll stress him and they may actually harm him overnight.

as the other posts say you'll need a timer to turn the lights on and off - its better to use one of these anyway becasue your beardie get a used to a standard 'day'. do not leave the tank by the window as the sunlight may push the temps too high and dehydrate / kill your bd.

dont leave for anymore than 1 night though - at 1 month they need constant care because they are so small and fragile - most breeders wont sell them unitl they are at least 2 months old for this reason.
