Rat Tails?

wizbang Jun 04, 2004 11:54 AM

Come to find my fuzzy mouse supplier is no more. As a result, I've contacted an online supplier. However, I won't receive my shippment from them until late next week.

Well, in the mean time, I have a hungry couple of very young cornsnakes.

Last night while feeding mom and dad I thought I'd try something. I snipped the tails off of their small rats before thawing them. Then when feeding the adults I dangled the cut tails in front of the youngins. Guess what? They ate them.

I realize the nutritional value of a rat tail is probably about 1% of that of a fuzzy mouse. However, I'm glad their digestive systems have something to work on besides their own bodies.

I must admit to being surprised that they took them.

how long in between the last feeding and when you expect to receive your new mice? keep in mind that most snakes can go a a few weeks without food with no ill effect. I always like to think about how they don't have the luxury of weekly feedings in the wild.lol.

She eats everyweek. It would have just been one week off were it not for the tail.
