Hello,
What you have is a Prolapsed Bowel. It can be caused by a little irritation to the bowel. Maybe some Parasites, or something else. HERE is what you do. Take a Cu Tip. Put some neosporin on it. It would be better if you had some sulvidine cream (sp?). Take the Cu tip, and then GENTLEY push it back into the vent. Then hold the vent closed. Massage it in a little, and hold it there for awhile. This should do the job. You may have to do it once or twice.
After this you need to be VERY careful with the Feeding on the snake for the next 6 weeks. ONLY feed it meals that will NOT even male a lump. Something a Lot smaller then you may already be feeding the snake. IF I were you, and I do this to EVERY snake that happens to prolapse ( I have had it happen 4 times over the years. This year with a GRAVID albino) I would give it Flagyl. That will get the good flora in the gut moving and healing that bowel. Give it a good dose of Flagyl. Then give it another DOSE again 8 days later. YOU HAVE TO REPEAT IT 8 days later, or it won't really work. This should take care of this, and I would just be careful with the sizes of the feed of the animal for awhile to come.
Hope this helps. Jeremy Stone
As for the doses of the Flagyl, and where to get it?? You can go to www.beanfarm.com (Tell them I sent you). They are GREAT!!!!!! They sell NON perscription Metronidizal OR Flagyl in Fish capsils. It is the SAME medicine. They come in 10 capsul packages. The DOSE is 1 PILL per 2 Pounds of snake. So, if you snake is UNDER 2 pounds, or about 1 pound, break open the capsul, and give 1/2 of the pill. Then repeat this 8 days later. EVERYONE should have flagyl. It is the WONDER drug for animals with bad poops after the stress of breeding season. I prefer Flagyl to Nutribac. Nutribac is ok, but Flagyl has better results in my opinion. You should also buy steel tubes that allow you to give the medicine. Just mix it up in 1 or 2 cc's of water and then put the steel tube down the mouth of the snake and give it to him. IT is VERY non stressful because the steel tubes are soo narrow. THIS SHOULD DO THE TRICK.... Also save you a good vet bill. Take Care, Jeremy Stone
NOW, if you have some parasites, you may want to mix the flagyl with some panacur. Do it at the same time. You can mix them together to reduce stress on the snake. Again, after 8 days do it again, and BINGO. No more parasites. LIVE Bearing snakes are the only animals that can pass on parasites from the MOM to babies. Many people thing if they get FRESH babies straight from Columbian or Nics, then they don't have to worry about parasites. WRONG!!!!!! They can and will get them from the mother if the MOM has them, which is a VERY GOOD chance they will. EGG Layers Don't have this problem. THEY CAN NOT get parasites from the MOM. Hope this helps.
SOOOOO BEWARE ALL YOU BUYING BABY BOAS!!!!!! If they are babies straight from Captive Hatched babies from Columbia or out of the wild, you will want to PREVENTATIVELY treat them NO MATTER WHAT!!!!!!!! Do a stool sample to determine if your snake has parasites. Should ONLY cost you 10 bucks. A VERY SMART 10 dollars to spend.
