substrate....

just outta curiosity what would be wrong with using beda-beast as a substrate when it is fully dried?. yes i know shelf liner is a better solution but i'm just curious

Basically it is the safty issues. If the dragon ingests it it can become inpacted. So lots of people avoid the possibility of killing or injuring their pet with a substarte that can be swallowed and go with paper , repti carpet, or shelf liners.

If I remember right thats the coconut husk stuff. If your beardie eats it they will not digest it and it can ball up in their digestive tract causing impaction. This can kill your beardie. Also if it gets wet it stays wet, increasing the humidity levels in your cage and can lead to resporatory infection among other things. Wouldn't recomend the stuff, stick to something that we know is safe like newspaper, shelf liner, etc.

yea, i figured that but i was just thinking if its ok to use with frog's and such ,why woudln't it werk for beardie's but yea, i'll just stick wif shelf liner

It isn't recommended, especially for young dragons, but I did use it for my bearded dragon for awhile when she was a juvi, maybe 12-14 inches long. She never had a problems with it, and is on playsand now.
