Photo of green frog and notes on metamorphing

It's amazing how lowering the water just a very small bit in a short amount of time makes these guys metamorph.

On Monday morning the one pictured here only had his back 2 legs. I exchanged about 20% of the water around noon and around 2pm he had his first front leg and before I went to bed I noticed he had all 4 legs.

I just did another water exchange this morning and I just noticed that another tad has 1 front leg plus the elbow and 1 finger of his 2nd front leg out. I'll have a bunch of froglets in no time.

Green frogs were my first frogs....I had mine for about 7 years before he passed away 2 winters ago. I definitely prefer them over their bigger bullfrog cousins.

the water change dose not really do eny thing. they just morph a lot fast in the end.

If the water doesn't affect them at all, then I guess I'm just changing water at just the right times then.

I always wondered how they grew their legs. I never knew until I saw the progression of one of my frogs front legs that the legs form under the layer of skin and when they shed their skin the legs can pop out. Very interesting if you ask me.

Metamorphosis is still one of the coolest things I've ever witnessed in biology till this day...

Can't get enough of the whole "fish-like animal sprouting legs to walk on land" thing...=)
