Optimal Temps for feeding

jmartin104 Jun 04, 2004 02:42 PM

Has anyone noticed an optimal temp range that promotes aggressive or consistent feeding patterns? I find that when the ambient temps exceed 85 degrees in the cool end, my snakes slow down or stop eating.

Any other observations?

If you got 85 on the cool end, what is the hot end? I always try to maintain 10 degree difference. 90-80. My two do great at these temps. only time they refuse to eat is when they are in shed.

85 would be a peak temp in the dead of summer. I kept the windows open in the room they were in. So in the morning, the cool side would be around 78, peak at 85 at about 3PM and then slowly drop back to around 78.

But what is the temp. on the warm side? The reason I asked is because when my hot side is 90 my cool side is 80. The only time the use the hot side is right after a meal. If it goes above 90 mine won't eat until the hot side is lowered.

My hot side varies with the time of year but it's set at 91. I have found that even with 85 degree cool side, my snakes still partially lay on the hot spot. We are approaching summer now - already into the 90s and I'm going to add AC for my snakes. I'm shooting for 80 - 90 degree range. 78-80 on the cool side with a 90 degree hot spot.

Sounds like temps are about right. I have found with younger balls a hide spot helps too. Alot of balls don't have a feeding response of a retic or burm, mine don't but they do eat on a weekly.
