Caging Question

Everlight389 Jun 04, 2004 02:53 PM

Eventually I'm gonna invest in one of these... but I need to know a little more about caging first.

1. The cage size that I have planned is for a more "terrestrial" setup of 48'' long x 18'' deep x 2' high. I can go larger, but that is the "optimal" size for the space I have. Is that large enough? Or does it need to be deeper?

2. Humidity is apparently the biggest reason that people tend to go with easier snakes... my thoughts are that if I use a large water bowl and mist the cage on a regular basis that it will keep it high enough. Would that be enough humidity or are there other things that I need to do?

3. Do they require any special lights? i.e UVB or anything?

Thanks

I think your dimensions will be more than adequate for 1 adult BRB.

You didn't mention what type of enclosure it is but it can likely be modified to proper humidity without misting.

They do not require special lighting with uvb.

Anything else we can help you with?

All of the cages that I've built have been constructed of particle board covered with plastic laminate, with the back being pegboard and the door a plexiglas frame.

Thanks again

Everlight,
....The cage you are building will work great if you make it with limited ventilation. Also, instead of spending several minutes misting half an ounce of water into the cage just pour 4-6 ounces right on the substrate a couple times a week.
Good luck,
Jeff
