introducing new female

sara h. Jun 04, 2004 03:40 PM

I have 2 adult females and 1 adult male housed together currently.

I need to know how to introduce this new female (YES she has been quarantined) without the male ripping her to shreds. Last time I tried introducing her, a huge fight broke out and she ended up getting a very bad wound on her back. The male then tried to attack the female that he has been housed with and has mated with. All of this happened because I tried to put her in the same cage as him. What can I do?

Thanks.

Poor little girl. Sounds like he wasn't too happy with the new roommate. I guess first of all... what size housing are we looking at here for all three? How many hide boxes? Make sure there's at least one different box for each of them.

Now...on to just the routine thing.
What you could try on the other hand, is take the two other geckos out of their tank and clean it down really good. Wash everything and get rid of all the scents that they may have left for territory. After you clean everything up and put it back you can try putting all three in again. Make sure to rearrange how things are placed. That way everything is new territory and the male won't feel so defensive about it.

Just remember to keep an eye on them again. I'm surprised he bullied her so badly. I hope things work out, but if they obvoiously you'll have to keep them separate.

take the male, set him on your bed.. Then take you female that got beat up and set her there( after she is healed up) and then take the new leo and set her on there. So all three leos will be on the bed at the sametime. Hard to watch them all but just make sher you dont day dream lol. If you do BAM one will be gone.. When you put them back into there cage. put the females into the cage first. After you see that they have gotten confortable in goes the male.. He will think that it isnt his home... and that it isnt his territory.. They shouldnt attack each other..

Males don't normally attack a female like that - not that I've witnessed anyhow. How did he originally act when you placed the other females in with him?
