Genetics Help PLEASE!

Milehighherps Jun 04, 2004 04:27 PM

Ya know i got the genetics thing down cold for my Corgi dogs, but i am finding it so much more difficult with boas. OK here goes the questions and please dont laugh....i really am trying to learn.
1. Coral Albino male x Salmontine 75% female = ????

2. Hypo male x Normal Argentine = ????

3. Super Hypo male x Normal Arg = ???? all salmontine right?

4. Coral Albino male x Anery female = ????

5. Coral Albino male x Salmon pos Super = ???? het sunglow?

I have the coral albino male and am trying to decide whether to buy the Super Salmon male or just a Hypo male since i cant find a Salmontine male for sale. Any and all suggestions welcome.
Thanks for all the wonderful info in this forum too! The blurry pic is of my female Arg "evita" who eats anytime even deep blue! susan

1. Coral Albino male x Salmontine 75% female = ????

Half the babies would be salmon (some variation on salmontine), and all the babies would be heterozygous albino. Repeated breeding back to a Colombian boa will eventually lose the Argentine (salmontine) look. IMHO, a better value is salmontine to salmontine.

2. Hypo male x Normal Argentine = ????

1/2 salmontine, 1/2 no different from the cross of a normal Colombian to an Argentine.

3. Super Hypo male x Normal Arg = ???? all salmontine right?

All salmontine.

4. Coral Albino male x Anery female = ????

All normal looking, all heterozygous for albino and for anerythristic. Likely to be called het snow.

5. Coral Albino male x Salmon pos Super = ???? het sunglow?

This cross will test whether your salmon is a super (=homozygous) salmon or just a salmon (heterozygous salmon).

If super salmon, all salmon and heterozygous albino (often incorrectly called het sunglow).

If salmon, 1/2 normally colored heterozygous albino, 1/2 salmon, heterozygous albino (often incorrectly called het sunglow).
