Altitude Change

guinness Jun 04, 2004 04:35 PM

Hey, I'm new to the boards so I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I am currently living in Chicago and will be moving to Denver at the end of this month. Will the altitude change affect my ball? It may be a silly question but is there anything I need to watch out for?

Also, what is the best way of transporting him, It's about a 13-14 hour drive? Thanks a lot

No such thing as a silly question. lilroach56 maybe right about the humidity in Denver. Once your snake goes into shed it might be a good idea to start spraing the sides of the cage with warm water once a day to keep the humidity up. Bronco fan or just getting awawy from the Bears?

The change in altitude shouldn't affect them. I live in Twin Peaks, CA which is at 6000' and have never had a problem with any of my ball pythons. They all eat and breed with no problems at all.
As for transportation you really should arm yourself with some heat packs used for shipping reptiles. Also arm yourself with a infrared thermometer so that you can monitor their temps through out the trip.
Maintaining proper temperatures for 14 hours is going to be your most important issue that you will need to address.

Hope this helps some.....

Thanks very much for the advice, I've only owned my ball for a year so I'm still learning a lot. Where can I pick up the heat packs? Can I get those at a pet store?

Oh and I am a die hard Bears fan, I'll still fly in for games.
