southern salamanders

thriveaddict Jun 04, 2004 05:47 PM

Are there any salamanders from the south that, because they are
from the south, like florida, can handle warmer tempuratures like up to 85 degrees? I've seen tiger salamanders of the southern variety with the large yellow blotches do okay, but is there anything else?

85 is bad-if its kept at that temp for extended periods it will develop stress/lesions. salamanders go comatose at 90F-so 85 is not good-if one lives through even a week of that it is beating the odds. there are a few non native species that can handle the 80's ok-but none here. remember the higher the air temp the faster the evaporation-and sals need moisture. even though the air in the south is warmer -underground isnt-those that live there will burrow down to their comfort zone.

Which non-native species are you referring too?
