EGG EMERGENCY PLEASE HELP!!!!

SpecKing Jun 04, 2004 07:53 PM

My wild caught normal cornsnake ( 4-5ft) layed 33 eggs today!!! But, the eggs are very small, the average length in little over 1". Whats wrong? All my other eggs ( from previous snakes ) have been 1 1/2" - 2" long. Why are these so small? Did stress cause her to lay to soon? O yea, a friend reccommended perlite. anyone used it before ( for incubating eggs ) . THANKS

33 eggs is a LOT of eggs to store in one snake body.... are the eggs you are referring to from Cornsnakes also? or are they from kingsnakes or other kinds of snakes. I got a lot of eggs that were very small like that too, this is my first year breeding cornsnakes, but the eggs can be a lot smaller than kingsnake eggs. I have ten cornsnake eggs in a container that will only hold 4 kingsnake eggs.

Perlite is fine, some people like it. Just get them started incubating, don't fret over their size.

I meant to say are the LARGE eggs you are referring to also cornsnake eggs, and these 33 are smaller than OTHER cornsnake eggs, or are they eggs from other species of snakes.

The small eggs are from a 4-5ft cornsnake, the larger eggs were from cornsnakes ( smaller clutches of corn eggs, maybe 10-15) and kingsnakes. Thank you for your help, it's nice that you'd take your time to help me. THANKS

You are quite welcome. Some of my corn eggs are VERY tiny... I can only hope they hatch out okay and have big enough mouths to eat newborn pinks when they are ready to start eating. Sure hate to offer up "pinkie parts" as it's a gruesome task to get pinkie parts from a whole pinkie. But hey, it's worth it for those that eat, right?

Give us all updates on how the eggs do, especially when they hatch!

I had one cream lay 20 eggs and the other lay 9 eggs.
The 20 eggs were a lot smaller then the 9.
I would imagine that the 9 just had more room to grow then the 20 did.
They are all looking good now and should be hatching within a week or so.
