sexing jungle carpets

wakesetter Jun 04, 2004 08:41 PM

So I am already thinking of breeding the JCP's that I received recently. I was told that they were a pair, but I just want to confirm...are the spurs alone enough to confidently sex these guys? My "male" is about 4 feet and the female is about 6'. He is much thinner than her so I will try to fatten him up over the summer so that I can cycle them this summer and hopefully breed them this spring!! Oh yeah, he does have some little spurs sticking out and she has none. I am used to the Burmese that I had years ago that had big spurs that were unmistakable. Thanks

I my opinion, spurs can only be used as a guidline. You can also look at the base of the tail. However, the only real way to tell is to probe them. I have been breeding carpets for about 5 years now and have received a few mis-sexed specimens in that time.
