Looking at getting a Garter, and wanting help

Hi, I currently have a ball python, and i am wanting to get another snake, so i figured i'd see how owners like them, and try to find out everything there is, so ........ I guess , just if you can tell me everything i need to know about them, how big they get, what size cage they need, what they eat, and w/e else you think i need to know. thanks
