odd slider

boaguy2000 Jun 04, 2004 10:43 PM

While I was out catching green tree frogs last night I found a very peculiar looking slider. The carapace is a little less than dinner plate size it has a normal slider plastron except its pattern less yellow, its head is one of a snapper or musk it is large and gray with black stripes, the color of the carapace seems to be calico and is very odd yet beautiful.it weighs 3-6lbs. It has a longer tail than the normal sliders I catch every day. I live in Florida around Sarasota. It was found in a drainage ditch in about 7 inches of water. I also found around it 9 or 10 stinkpots.

thanks,
Spencer

Hello:
I gave an answer in the RES forum. Even without a picture the description fits that of a very old RES.
Have a Great Day!!!

yep sounds like an old melanistic male red-eared. But we need a picture to confirm.

Hey guys thanks for responding I have pics I just need to load them. But I'm pretty sure I found out what it is, it looks exactly like a Jamaican slider (Trachemys terrapen). Im pretty sure its not an old RES it has the head and tail of a giant mud turtle. Thanks to all who replied. pics will be available soon.

How do you post pictures I finally have some but don't know how to post them?

Thanks,
