newbie bearded dragon owner questions

ok so i bought my tank today a forty gallon breeder its really big i know its not big enough, but how long should this tank last. the bearded dragons at the petshop where im going to go are 2 months and are pretty little. also when the beared dragon does outgrow this what other reptile could i put in it? sorry for all the questions but also should the uvb light go along the whole cage or just some of it? and what furnishings should i put in the cage? sorry for all the questions but i would apprciate the help

You should be pretty good with a 40 breeder for the life of your dragon, as long as there is only one. The width of the 40 breeder is greater than most other tanks unless you buld one yourself, which really is what the dragons need as they grow... square footage on the ground is better than cubic feet or gallons, and a 40 breeder has more square footage than a 55 gallon, which is the smallest recommended size for 2 adult dragons. Make sure you have a proper basking site and temperature gradient in the cage, and you should have a very happy dragon.

40 gal is too big for a baby if you are planning on feeding crix. You can divide the tank or just cut a piece of cardboard to fit accross during feeding time. small BDs are not the best hunters and to make it easier for themm a smaller eating area is needed. Remember to get all uneaten crix out of the tank.
