Thinking of black pines.......................

BIG DONNIE BRASC Jun 04, 2004 10:52 PM

For a person that LOVES indigo snakes but doesn't have the cash, would you guys recommend a black pine or a black milk ?

Thanks for the input!!

black pines! It is not the same animal as an indigo, so be sure to research it and have the right "expectations". Beautiful animals, and there's a good group of breeders in the forum to help with questions, etc.

I do not mean to be rude or critical in any way, so please do not be offended when I say that if you LOVE indigos that much, you really should be patient, save your money, and get one. If you look at a black snake and wish it was an indigo, you won't be happy and you won't appreciate a couple of great species.

If you read up on black pines or black milks and think that they'd be great snakes in themselves (not just indigo fill-ins), you'll be a happy camper.

I can honestly say that I wouldn't trade, straight up, my black pine for an indigo. She's got the personality and looks that I love and she fits in with my "housekeeping" requirements. I've seen some posts from the black milk people and they're dedicated to their snakes too. If you can appreciate them, you won't go wrong with either black pines or milks.

I'm not sure if you're aware of it, but most people would agree an indigo snake is much more of a high maintenance animal than a pine snake. They are also more expensive and subject to legal restrictions (you cannot cross a state line with one and cannot buy them from someone out of state legally without government paperwork).

If you are researching black snakes, there is a black pine snake information sheet in the Pine Snake section of my webpage.
