OK I have 1 BP... LOVE him to death... I had 7... I was going to start breeding... but my life just isnt in the right place right now. I love my BP and I am making a nice display cage for him now that I am not breeding he dosent need to be in his rubbermaid anymore. I am thinking of while I am building his cage, I want to make another and get another repti-pet. I regret getting rid of one of the BPs I had... but it was too late when I realized it... guy had a deposit on her and I didn't want to renig. I am thinking of getting another BP, or maybe something else... Here is what I have to work with and some prefrences...

>Under 6'l x 2.5'd x 3'h terrestrial cage... not sure on size or ariborial

>around the same temps and humidity as a BP, although this could vary for the right species.

> eats vegitation or rodents

> not interested in corns, kings, or anything of that sort... smaller snakes arent my thing...

>Lizards are OK, but I can't seem to find any that dont eat insects.

>Can be handled... not every day handling... but I am pretty hands on.

What are your thoughts... I have REALLY want a Burmese... but I don't want to cramp him up when he is full grown... and I am not sure what the feeding costs would be on one.. so any imput on that would be awesome... I saw on the forums that they now have Dwarf Burms... if that is true... what are they running and can I get more info on them?

I think other than that... I just love BPs. Although I have seen ALOT of Repti-pets that interest me... I do not want to give them inadiquate care... I spoil them as much as possible for a reptile LOL... so I turn down MANY of the ones that really appeal to me physically.

Thanks for any help...

any of the BC ssp are great. Dwarf retics. Yellow condas. and probably a WHOLE lot more would fit into a cage that size.

Yeah... I looked into Dwarf Retics... a little pricy and I have been told there pretty tempermental, but I do like them. Anacondas arent really what I am looking for... I was thinking more of a forest/desert snake... the other you listed I am not farmilliar with.

I would go with a BCC or BCA or BCI or a Dwarf BCI.

BCI=common Boas, BCC=true red-tail boas, BCO= Argentine boa. I agree that the boas would be perfect for your situation and they make great pets that you can handle as much as you want.

The more I look the more I LOVE burms and retics.... but I really can't do that for now... I don't like the boas... I think I am just going to have to stick with my BPs.... not a dissapointment at all... I love them

My thoughts?... the vast majority of persons should not own a Burmese python or any such large snake species. However, if someone decides to get one, then he/she must UNDERSTAND that such an animal CAN kill it's keeper. Once this is understood and appropriate safety practices are adopted, only then should a person proceed to acquire the animal. Standard practices include maintaining the animal in an absolutely escape-proof enclosure (preferably locked) that is itself maintained within an escape-proof room (preferably locked). Once the animal reaches a certain size (generally a third of the keeper's mass), then feeding and handling should be supervised by a second adult.... that is, above a certain size there should be two adults present during handling and feeding sessions.

That said, if you decide to get a large python, then I recommend that you acquire a male (will not get as large as a female).

Dwarf burms are likely VERY expensive right now (an investment animal)

I understand all of the above... I was planning on a male if I did get one... but I think I am going to have to wait on a snake that big. I wish I could, but I can't right now. I think I am going to stick with my trusty BPs for now... I love them... and so far nothing measures up to them that I can keep as of now. Thanks anyway.
