Want to Hear What is Going on Here

MSRHINOVIPER Jun 18, 2003 04:34 PM

Well they are taking all the PDs and putting them down. Every one of them they can get. Is that not cruel or what? A animal contol truck had some in the back of it this morning and it was in a wreck thank God! The little PDs got to run for their lives. I was so happy for them I was cheering. They were saying they would hurt you if you came up on one so stay away from them. They had just picked them up from a home so they were tame. So I dont see them hurting anyone. They just want to see all of them killed. They are talking about being able to go in your home and get them if they know you have them. I dont know where they get off on doing this. They are trying to stop us from having any exotic animals. We have been fight them for the past 2 months. They keep coming up with more stuf all the time. Now they are going to hit on farm animals this week. Boy I hate it when they try to pass that meaning this is a county and there is lots of farms around here.
If anyone know how we can top them from killing these little animals please post it so that we can tell every one. This needs to be stopped. They are taking every thing we enjoy away from us and it sucks. I love my snakes and I aint going to lose them or any of my animals.
What happen to this being the Land Of The Free year right! You cant even have what you want or do what you want in your own homes this needs to stop. I know there is alot of exotic lovers out there we need to stand up for our rights!!! We dont bother anyone. We just want to beable to keep what we want and no one tell us we cant!!!!! Help me people please lets do something stand up to these people. It only takes 1 person to bring the law up and have it passed I have seen that to many times. But this has gone to far now we have got to do something!

I believe they need a warrent. I live in Virginia and they need a warrent to force themselves into your home.

MSRHINOVIPER Jun 19, 2003 08:42 PM

You would think they would but they said that if they want they can do it. Like I said I thought we were free to do and have what ever animal we wanted but I guess I was wrong.

I am assuming you are talking about fish and game here? If this is the case they don’t need warrants to come into your house...this varys by state but I am almost positive they can in your state ..its sad but in most case's Fish and Game have more power then police officers.

It is bad that they can do that. I know with all these new laws they are trying to pass it seems like they can do anything they want. I am just sick of it. I just hope we have enough people here to fight for our rights to keep our exotics. It seems the more people you have the better off. They didnt get it passed in the county next to us so maybe we can stop all of it here. They cant afford to hire the man power they need to enforce the new laws so maybe that will help to. Lets hope for the pets safety. Because they are wanting to put down everything they can. I would hate to see these exotics running loose around here in Davidson they all would have heartattacks if they seen some of the big snakes around here running around. Which it would be funny to see their faces lol. BUt just hope for the best is all I can say right now. We are trying to stop the ban on them.

Is this story in any way related to the prairie dog/monkeypox connection announced earlier in the month? See CBS/AP article below.

"A virus similar to smallpox apparently jumped from an imported African rat to pet prairie dogs, infecting at least four people — possibly dozens — in the disease's first appearance in the Western Hemisphere.

Fourteen people in Wisconsin are suspected of suffering from the monkeypox virus and four are confirmed, said City of Milwaukee health commissioner Dr. Seth Foldy. At least 10 more cases in Indiana and three in Illinois are suspected.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Saturday the prairie dogs likely were infected with the virus by a giant Gambian rat, which is indigenous to African countries, at a suburban Chicago pet distributor.

Thirteen of the people suspected of having the virus in Wisconsin were around prairie dogs, while the other apparently contracted it after handling a sick rabbit that had been around a prairie dog. Foldy said it doesn't appear anyone contracted the virus from another person.

Monkeypox in humans is not usually fatal, but causes rashes, fevers and chills. Doctors initially feared they might be facing smallpox, which causes similar symptoms, but scientists quickly eliminated that possibility after discovering the link between people and prairie dogs. Monkeypox's incubation period is about 12 days."

Damned idiots. Yeah, as if monkeypox is MORE DANGEROUS than the friggin' bubonic plague! Hypocrites!
I'm so glad this isn't happening in my area.

MSRHINOVIPER Jun 24, 2003 05:18 PM

Yea I know it sucks. I have till August to beat this thing the next meeting is then. I just hope I have enough to stop them. Trying to get all the facts I can get. This mess with the monkeypoxs has really hurt us but we are trying to show them that there is more stuf that needs to be worrying them other than that. I just know if they pass this law they wont be in office next time it is voting time. You can bank on that!

No, it's not cruel. It is be misinformed and poorly executed, but it is not cruel.

A animal contol truck had some in the back of it this morning and it was in a wreck thank God! The little PDs got to run for their lives. I was so happy for them I was cheering.
This one sent a chill down my spine. What exactly were you cheering- the fact that those prairie dogs not recaptured will most likely die a slow, painful death, or that those who survive will displace local flora and fauna?

MSRHINOVIPER Jun 25, 2003 05:29 PM

I was cheering for the PDs but they were caught yesterday and killed. Know they didnt have the monkeypoxs but they did it any way. I think it is humane to put an animal downt hat there is nothing wrong with it. I believe that if something bad is wrong then yes do it. But when there is nothing wrong why bother them let someone who will take it home and take care of it have it. My point only. I am sorry if you think I was being mean but you just dont know what we are going through right now. I will tell you this it is alot of bull. They are wanting to take all of our exotics away from us and that is wrong in my book. We dont bother no one so why should they bother us. This mess with the monkeypoxs is bad I am sorry it happen but it has really hurt the people who are fighting to keep there exotics (all of them).
I just wish these people who get these animals would get smarter and have them checked so this will not happen again. I own a few imports and all of them were treated before I bought them. If the guy that we got them from can do it why cant everyone? Oh well!
