Newbies and all others with questions....

lostkauze Jun 05, 2004 07:43 AM

Hi. Right now might not be the best time to be here at KS. I dont mean to stab any of my fellow LeoFans in the back, but newbies have questions.

I am not an expert. I'll tell you that straight up. But with all thats going on now, you questions might not get answered and you might not get friendly answers. I dont know how old any of you are, but if your young, I don't think your parents will really want you coming here if they see some of these postings going on.

If you dont like whats going on here, and want to ask a question, or whatever, feel free to email me. I'll do my best to answer your questions, and if they are a bit out of my league, I'll forward them on to someone with more knowledge.I just think that someone has to be there for you and your questions and your lizards. My email is lostkauze@aol.com if any of you are interested. Just trying to do what I think is right and fair for you guys.

Michael

Hi thank you so much I have had a few ppl (very few)_ help out somewhat but yeah trying to get answers around here is vertually impossible. I am trying to find a good tank temp. I have a day lamp and a heating pad in a 20 gallon for the day and the heating pad and night glow bulb for the night time. My temps for the day time on the wARm side: AIR= 90 SAND=101 and on the cool side AIR=86 SAND=96 this is too hot isnt it? I cant get a warm and cool side no matter what I do. when I shut off the heating pad it gets too cool. PLEASE HELP

What type heating pad are you using ?
Pretty much all of them are adjustable, try backing it down a notch.
This is why I use FlexWatt tape with a thermostat for my snakes.
Much better control of temps.
Do you have the pad running length wise ? if so turn it 180* so it only covers one end of the tank.
What kind of substrate are you using ?
Most of all what are you using to measure temps with ? most likely your problem right there, those cheapo stick on things are junk !Also how close to the heat source are you getting temp readings from ?(Should be 2" off sub)
I use AcuRite* Digital Temp/Humidity guages from Walmarts for my snakes.Lots of BANG for the Buck with these little jewels

yes I have my pad turned the right way and my thermometer 2" above substrate (which is diet aproved calcium sand) I know it poses a danger but a trusted friend who has dealt with all retiles for years uses it and said there have been no problems. anyway um yes I do have a cheepo stick on thermometer I am going to by a dial or digital today. hopefully it helps and no my heatingf pad isnt adjustable it is from zoo med.
