Tricks for Carrying a Camera

Obediah2 Jun 05, 2004 12:53 PM

I have a digital rebel and I have been going on a lot hikes to get cool pictures. I have been keeping it in my backpack, but it is a pain to get it out all the time. I do a lot of bouldering and scrambeling where I am jumping off of stuff and climbing. Has any found any good tricks for keeping a camera accessible without having it in the way all the time?

Thanks,

Jake

Hi,
Im an avid backpacker. this summer i went backpacking in new mexico and everone in my 12 man crew carries cameras. what we did was find one of those sunglass cases that was big enough to hold our camera and had a snap or velcro back and we just attacted it to our shoulder strap its out of the way but easy to get to if need be.

i use something like this just got to find one that fits your camera. o heres the like incase if dosent work

It depends on the type of lenses you have attached to the SLR.

There are a wide variety of fanny/belt packs available which would suit this perfectly. I have two - a small one which will hold just my SLR with a mid range zoom and a flash and a larger one which will hold two lenses and two flashes. Go to a decent camera store (or try online somewhere like bhphotovideo.com).

There are also neck/chest straps that hold the camera around your neck but firmly anchor it to your chest so that it doesn't bounce around as you walk. I use these for my binoculars when birding and they work great. They have a quick release which allows them to be brought up to the eyes in a second or less.

Thanks - I like the idea of a fanny pack/belt. I think I could keep the camera on my hip while I was walking and swing it around to the back for rock climbing...etc.

As an added bonus - with all that stuff on my belt I'll feel like Batman!

Thanks again,

Jake
