Impacted Frilled baby?

Karu Jun 05, 2004 11:01 PM

I posted a few days ago about my new frilled dragon. Well, he's not eaten anything in 3 days and not pooped in like 4. I'm starting to wonder if he's impacted? He has a water dish to soak in and even gets natural UV along with his bulb... Is this normal, or do you think he may be impacted? He's showing all the signs of it.. Like being really really lazy.. Sleeping most of the day and not moving. I dunno what's wrong with him.. I guess it's time for some warm soaks tomorrow.

How large is he?
Meal worms aren't the best food for reptiles because they contain so much non-digestible exoskeleton... I'd stick to crickets, & occasional wax worms.

What are your cage temps (hot & cool side)?...
should be about 105°F right under the basking light. I'd say to go up closer to 110° in a larger tank, but in a 10 gal. you don't have much of a heat gradient and they need a cooler side.

What are you using for substrate?
I'd use paper towels or something that isn't going to get swallowed. I use Zoomed Ecoearth (compressed cocoanut shell fibers) because it can be kept wet to hold the humidity that they need.

I'd stop feeding the meal worms right away and give him/her a daily warm bath. Also if any people or other animals are in his/her view, block off the sides of the cage with paper towels or something or move the cage to a private area where pets/people aren't in his view. They can get stressed out by other animals and not eat as much as they normally would (this can also cause them to be less active).
