Melamine high temps...?

smallfry Jun 05, 2004 11:28 PM

I'm thinking about building a new cage and have concerns about which material (plywood ,melamine) won't catch on fire if exposed to 110 degree temps. I'm not at all familiar with melamine, so please bear with me.

Is this something I should worry about or am I being silly? The heat lamps are on 8hrs/day and I wouldn't want any disasters.

I cut a hole 1" larger than the diameter of the light I'm using I then attach hardware cloth (heavy duty screening) across the hole to support the light. This depends on the lighting configuration you are using. As long as there is some space between all parts of the fixture and any wood componets you'll be alright. In the long run I would say melamine is the safer product.
