A sad day in American history

thecaiman Jun 06, 2004 02:57 AM

I know this is off topic but couldn’t help it. In case you haven’t read Ronald Reagan our former President from 81-89 has died at age 93. The article I read said it was complications from Alzheimer's. I was a teen when he left office but can still remember a couple things the man stood for one being patriotism in this great country we live within and another bringing down the evil empire stand out. While he may be happier due to his illness I just think his passing is a sad day in our history as a nation. What I remember of the man from my teen years he really believed in the nation of ours and was a true human being that didnt deserve the cards he was dealt the last few years of his life.

I loved him as president and as governor... one of the few honest politicians out there.... he stood up for what he believed in and always did exactly what he said he would do..

That's my opinion of him and that is how I will remember him.

Thank you
God Bless America
RIP Reagan

Amen. Well said. I too felt sadness at his passing. He was such a strong figure, to think of him the last few years in such bad shape was painful. God rest him.

I won't get into the politics of Reagon... but my grandmother died years ago from Alzheimer's and it was somewhat of a relief for the family when she did since it was unbelievably painful/sad watching such a proud woman suffer the way she did for many many many years. I would not wish it on anyone. Its just an awful condition. ~Jason

My Mother is suffering from a form of dementia that the doctors think is AZ. Fortunately, for her, it has come on very late in life. She is 89 and is only now having big problems with her short term memory. It is a very sad disease, especially when it strikes in midlife, causing people to be robbed of themselves so young. There aren't many things sadder than watching a parent forget who you are.

Yep my grandmother of 96 had it and was in a home for a long time, her own daughter of 56 died of cancer three years ago then grandma went 3 weeks later when my loveing brother and mothers live in companion,Joe, decided to break the news to grandma, who i believed had a stroke of the news, she wasn't aware of what was being told, but her brain and heart got the message. Im sure thats what caused her to have a stroke. When i went to visit her she was wheelchair bound and trying to go out the door to pick us kids up from preschool. She had moments of recognition, but fading more often than not. Couldn't stay long, it was too much, floating in and out of childhood. Like listening to someone under hypnosis.

I know what you went through. My grandmother also suffered with Alzheimer's for close to 15yrs. Seeing her reduced to basically a vegitable the last five yrs. of her life not knowing anybody not even talking or able to feed herself was the worst thing in my life. She was the most loving person before she got sick really loved her grand kids, that is what I try to think about when I look at her picture on my wall everyday.

President Reagan was one of the best presidents in American history. He came along we America needed him most. President Carter had devastated the economy, shame our country by an unbelievable so of weakness in world affairs and acted like the GA peanut farmer he was.
President Reagan took office and resolved the domestic issues and brought world wide respect back to our country. He established the US as the one True Super Power we our today and reunited us as Americans.
He is without a doubt my Favorite President of my Memory. I hope for the day that another man comes along with the ability to do what President Reagan was able to do.
God Bless him and keep him.
Thanks
