laying eggs....???????

KTMartin Jun 06, 2004 10:51 AM

When we woke up today, our female Nicole had laid 3 eggs, 2 partially buried and 1 just laying there. Now she seems to be digging again, but not laying anymore. I can still see lumps in her belly so i was wondering, how long does it usually take for a beardie to lay all her eggs. I am worried that something is wrong, and also should i seperate the male from her? I have heard that the male,

ok. yes definantly seperate her from the male. also go buy a plastic tub that is capable of holding 1' of soil. fill it with soil and put the female in there. she should dig a deep hole there and lay the rest of her eggs.

I'll add that the dirt should be moist and piled on a slant on one end. Some people also like to start a hole for them. Point a basking light at the mound also. Are you ready for the eggs???

Here is a link that will tell you a lot about what you need to do.

Do you have a way to get rid of them? Do you know if they are related? It costs about 800-1200 dollars to setup and raise hatchlings right. Not to mention the market is flooded.

yeah i know breeding can be expensive and tedious, i never planned to breed, but i do have homes for most of them, i would probably keep one female just the heck of it, plus my wife works at a vet's office, so the doc there said he would help me find homes for the rest, but so far 5 eggs laid, none saved, she crushed 4 by stepping on them and the fifth was in the incubator and now it is oozing liquid. she still has some in stomach so she is going to work with wife tomorrow so the doc can check her out.....dont know if they are related, bought them full grown......was told they were not related, but you know how that goes....thanks for the reply and link, will keep you posted....

I once had a female take her time to lay eggs. She laid half a clutch on a Monday and the rest on Tuesday (24 hours apart). The vet looked at her on Wednesday and said that she was fine but recommended that she not be bred in the future. She is a pet now and my favorite girl, she hasn't laid again since and I don't encourage it. It took her a while to recover from that clutch and I wasn't about to put her life at risk to breed her again.

I would really like to have someone else's opinion on this matter.

my beardie started laying eggs 6 days ago.....she just laid another about 10 mintutes ago.........so far 19 laid, 5 bad, so i got 14 in an incubator and i dont think she is done yet, the vet my wife works for came over today and looked at her, we have been giving her shots of fluids and calcium, and he said she looks a little dehydrated but she will be fine. I am gonna give her a warm bath in a little bit and see if she wants to eat. She wont use the nest box, she lays them wherever she is sitting, thats how we lost 5, she crushed them... will keep u posted....
