I believe its a he, He has two bumps near the start of his tail, Here is a pic but i think the flash was too bright so you can't probably tell :/.

Your right about the flash but if it has two prominant bumps at the base then i'd say its a male,i have a 3 foot sav now and hes a male,also has two big bumps at the base of the tail,so going by that male
i remember when my guy's were that little they were so cute,now they are walky food machines..lol

I can tell i also used to have a huge savnnah,i got her for my 4th birthday(more for my dad at the time)and she has been with me ever since then but recently passed away,she lived a long life i had her for 12 years now and she was i belive almost an adult at the time of purchaseing
You should post some more pics of the savs,unless you allreaddy did and i missed them,and ill be posting a pic of my water monitor soon,interesting monitor.
