My plan was to get the snake takeing pre-killed toads from my hand (which I have done) then offer him scented mice then unsented. Should I just offer him the mouse? Does it need to be pinky. Its 19" long

The longer you keep it on toads, the harder it will be to switch it. Keep a toad as a "pet" for scenting purposes and start with mice right away. I don't recommend using your "hand", your human scent may distract it from feeding. Use a long pair of hemostats instead. Go with jumpers.

I recently got a CB baby Eastern to take only slightly scented pinkies. The method that has worked the most consistently is to get as many toads to bite it as a feeding response. This has also worked with gray treefrogs. The trick has been to not let the toad eat the pinky!

I know you can scent and get them to eat rodents, but I have an adult female Eastern that will chase the tongs around the cage to get a fresh killed unscented adult mouse....I still feed her f/t toads but every third feeding she only gets one unscented mouse....It's almost like a treat. I'll post a pic to this here in the next couple days to show you her interest. Hope this helps,

That snake looks like a tiny puff adder in that shot.
