new user - feeding help ... please !

Hi
We have just aquired our first snakes, a corn, and a rat snake who have lived together for quite a while. We bought them together with their tank. We were told that the corn is a female and the rat snake is male, and that they have tried to or actually have mated recently.
We were told to feed the snakes separately when we got them home. The rat snake was no problem and ate his defrosted mouse immediately, but the corn snake has yet to eat. She appeared very restless and was constantly on the move until we installed a hide box (there was previously only a water bowl and a log), and she has settled much more, but seems totally disinterested in food, and tried frantically to get out of the container we put her in to feed her....we've only had her a couple of days, and she was feeding well before, and has recently shed ..... about 2 weeks ago ....
Are we fussing too much???

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated!!

She could be getting ready to lay eggs. Give her a laying box (a container filled with damp but not wet medium, such as sphagnum moss)and see what happens! If she is gravid and ready to lay, you should be able to feel bulges in the back half of her body if you let her slide through your hands.

Good luck!

she's just very stressed out from her new environment, give her 3 or 4 days, then try feeding again; thats probabaly all it is

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm pretty sure she's not gravid, as you can't feel anything at all inside (and we don't REALLY know for sure she's female) We are in the process of 'furnishing' the tank, as it was very bare, and the presence of a hide box (well, a hide plantpot really lol) seems to have calmed her down no end.
We'll try feeding her again at the weekend, when they are apparently normaly fed. That should give her enough time to settle in.

Thanks again,

V and B
