A Q for nutrition experts...

creep77 Jun 18, 2003 06:44 PM

I hve read a few hazy opinions that thawing rodents in warm water leeches essential vitamins and minerals from the food items, thereby voiding proper nutrition and in growth in captive snakes. Is there truth to this statement or is it a fallacy? Is there any solid documentation that either proves or disproves this statement? Thanks

Gday,
This topic has been thrown around among many friends for some time and some interesting info has turned up. Nutritional deficiencies certainly can and do cause big problems in reptiles and any chance to avoid them should be looked at. I no longer use water, warm or cold to thaw any reptile food and my freezing and thawing ways have certainly changed, theres plenty of info around if you look , but this page is neat and to the point.
hope it helps.
